Through the Storm

Through the Storm - Mobile, AL

Unfortunately, I missed the opportunity to minister on last week. My seven-year old daughter and I were faced with the threat of Hurricane Katrina. News broadcast after news broadcast encouraged me to go to a storm shelter. My daughter and I head out under the armor of prayers in Jesus’ name. We made it safely to the shelter on the dark, rainy night of Sunday August 28, 2005. We dealt with hours of uncertainty. We had to sleep on the floor among strangers. They told us that the worst of the storm would hit on Monday afternoon.

On Monday morning they were bringing in people that were flooded out of their homes. The US Coast Guard had to rescue them to safety.

We didn’t know what to expect, but we knew that we were in the hands of the Lord.  One scripture that I’ve taught my daughter is that: God has not given us the spirit of fear but a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind.  II Timothy 1:7

We were told that we wouldn’t be able to go home until Tuesday. Others began to leave on Monday evening. They also allowed us to leave. My neighbor told me that our neighborhood wasn’t flooded.  We ventured home among downed branches and low hanging power lines.

One of the streets we took on the way was fully flooded. The Lord led us to follow a truck in front of us. We made it home dry and safe. We lacked electricity, but not the power of the Lord.

I praise God because through it all He kept my daughter and I safe. He also speedily allowed us to have our electricity restored. We did not go hungry. We did not go without. The Lord sustained us through the storm. There is no storm strong enough to blow away the love that the Lord has for his children.

I was reminded of the scripture that says:

God is my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore I will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. … The Lord Almighty is with me; the God of Jacob is my fortress. Psalm 46:1-3, 7

The Lord loves you and wants you to know that no storm of life or even a literal storm can separate God’s love from you.

Let’s continue to pray for all educators that have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. Let’s continue to pray for students that we will receive on our campuses from other states. Let’s continue to pray for the parents of these students.

Let’s allow the Lord to minister to these and other students through us.

God Bless You!
